TurboCAD Deluxe V16.2 – Timber Frame Barn is available on the Textual Creations Shopping Page. Sample pages are available there.

From the Introduction:

A large user focus of any CAD software is ultimately the architectural / construction field. Whether a user is designing a cabin, a house, or other unnamed structure a user must feel that they can depend fully on the CAD software that they purchased – that it will meet their needs in a timely and hassle free manner. It is the author’s belief that TurboCAD can and will meet the needs of most builders without too much trouble, once over the initial learning curve that is part of any software package.

Within this very comprehensive tutorial the reader will be led through each keystroke to produce all components of the timber frame barn that is illustrated on the cover of the tutorial. The reader will learn how to create each object by manipulating 2D profiles and 3D primitive shapes. The reader will learn how to set up their drawing, how to insert standard lighting and how utilize render scene luminance. The reader will learn how to establish a render scene environment and the reader will learn how to render their drawing and save it in a high resolution image format. Additionally the reader will be led through the steps to create a title block and a six page paper space presentation.

I’ve just stumbled upon your site while searching for a tutorial on an related subject. Glad I did too. There’s a lot I like. Anyway, you’ve been bookmarked and I’ll be back soon. :)

    Hello Gene,

I will try to answer your questions as best I can.

I am not really sure how search engines functions, but I know that a user is more likely to find CAD style drawing images, if they use the Google image search ‘Line drawing’ option. After performing an image search, expand ‘options’ and select line drawings. I imagine that Google sets the parameters to find photos first, based on what they feel is most in demand, but this is just a guess on my part.

I am glad that you find the timber frame barn appealing. In TurboCAD you can perform a walkthrough of the structure and you can even animate that walkthrough if you have the TurboCAD add-on called Animation Lab. Within the tutorial, while setting up views, I illustrate how to walk into the barn to get a view just inside the front doors in hidden line view. It is a pretty neat experience.

I do all my covers in Photoshop because I like to be able to utilize the processes available there. Whenever I create a cover where the output is different than what it is directly from TurboCAD I do put a note on the cover so it is not misleading (see bottom left corner of the cover image). I think that the barn straight from TurboCAD is very nice on its own, but the blending of hidden line and quality render on the cover really gives a fuller overview of what is possible and hopefully grabs the views attention enough to get them interested. It is my hope that by adding the note that viewers don’t feel I am trying to misrepresent the capabilities of TurboCAD. If viewers do take the link to the shopping page and take time to review the sample pages they will see the actual renderings there and find that all the components are there and are quite nice just the same.

The tutorial cover could actually be created right in TurboCAD. The gradient background is achievable in TurboCAD, as well as the yellow sticker. Even a combined Hidden Line / Quality render look is achievable in TurboCAD. I have a tutorial that even focuses on getting these types of cover graphics straight out of TurboCAD, for those that don’t have Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro or other graphics editor. See Product Package & Poster http://www.textualcreations.ca/Textual%20Creations%20Shopping%20Page.html#Product_Package_Poster

The two things that are missing from TurboCAD that would be a very sweet addition, are the ability to create feathered drop shadows and the ability to insert a transparent background image. If TurboCAD had these one might never need an image editor.

    Best regards,
    Don

Don,I am looking the role of Cad drawings in the marketplace

I’ve see your name at TC forum. I know you are highly experienced so I feel I can ask questions and get real answers

I am working with Photoshop & stepping into TC16 a tiny bit

My job is making images I blend drawings and photographs … any way it works … I just want images that pop-off-the-page-and-tell-the-story -plus- appear in Google Image Search or Bing Image Search … increasingly, my images show up in the first few pages of Image Search

… I Google/Bing Image Search every day but rarely see Cad-type drawings > maybe a sketch outline but no elaborate 3-D stuff shows up

    My questions:

    1. Why don’t cad drawings show up during Image Searches? Are cad drawings industry specific? Are cad drawings too ‘unrealistic’ or ‘uncolorful’ for the marketplace blitz? Certainly they seem harder to make than photoshop manipulations.

    2. I see your Barn drawing above As a tradesman and carpenter, I want to zoom over and walk through the structure, it is wonderful and I wish I had TC skill to match … but the whole image looks like it was finalized in photoshop with the grey gradient background, the large 2-color print and bright yellow sticker … was this entire image made in TC???
